The service was formed in 2009 following the merger of a group of regional legal services.

HISTORY

QIFVLS was formed after the recognition of a gap in access to legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of domestic violence, family violence and sexual assault.

This gap has been evidenced by the fact that without this service, victims of family violence are either not seeking help, are not represented, or are not able to access the level of intensive and culturally appropriate assistance they need.
